The Lesure Today Show Soft Collapsible Dog Crate is a standout choice for pet owners who love to travel. Designed for large dogs up to 70 pounds, this 36-inch black crate has earned a 2026 Good Housekeeping Award for its innovative, portable design. It is perfect for road trips, camping, or visiting rental homes where a secure, comfortable crate is a must.
This crate shines in real-world use. The foldable frame collapses into a compact package with a storage bag, making it easy to carry. Setup takes just two minutes, and the four-sided zippered mesh walls provide excellent airflow, keeping your dog cool and comfortable. The soft plush mat adds a cozy touch, and the sturdy iron frame ensures structural integrity. Reflective strips and a self-locking zipper system enhance safety, while an integrated leash offers extra control.
The build quality is impressive for a soft-sided crate. The polyester fabric is water-resistant and easy to clean with a damp cloth, and the removable mat is machine washable. The crate is lightweight at 12.75 pounds, yet feels durable. However, some users note that assembly instructions could be clearer, though setup remains straightforward once you understand the mechanism. The soft sides may not withstand aggressive chewers, but for well-behaved pets, it is a reliable solution.
A minor drawback is the maximum weight recommendation of 50 pounds, which may limit use for larger dogs. Additionally, the soft design lacks the chew-proof security of heavy-duty wire crates. However, for most travelers, these trade-offs are minimal given the portability and comfort benefits.
Overall, the Lesure Today Show Soft Collapsible Dog Crate is an excellent investment for pet owners who value convenience and safety. Its award-winning design, easy portability, and thoughtful features make it a top recommendation for travel and everyday use. Designed for breeds up to 50 pounds, this soft-sided kennel combines lightweight portability with sturdy construction, making it a popular choice among dog owners who need a reliable travel crate that won't weigh them down.
Setting up the crate takes seconds thanks to its pop-up design, and it folds flat just as quickly for storage or transport. Users consistently praise the overall build quality, noting that the frame holds up well to normal use and the mesh panels provide ample ventilation.
With a weight of only 6.5 pounds, this crate is truly portable, yet it remains stable enough not to tip over when a dog moves inside. The polyester fabric is easy to wipe down, and the zippers are smooth and secure. However, the crate is not designed for heavy chewers or anxious dogs, as the fabric can be torn if scratched or bitten repeatedly. Some owners also report that cleaning can be challenging if the dog gets carsick, as the material absorbs odors and messes.
While the Amazon Basics crate excels in convenience and value, it is best suited for calm, well-behaved dogs that are already comfortable in a crate environment. For those with destructive pets, a hard-sided kennel may be a better investment. Overall, this crate delivers on its promise of easy travel and quick setup, making it a solid choice for road trips, camping, and visits to family.

The build quality is solid for a soft crate, using 600D Oxford fabric for the outer shell, stainless steel poles for the frame, and a waterproof PVC-coated lining inside. The interior is easy to clean with a damp cloth, and the ergonomic carry handle makes transport comfortable. The 30x21x21 inch dimensions are suitable for extra small to medium dogs, though owners should measure their pet to ensure a good fit.
Potential drawbacks include the soft sides, which are not designed for dogs that chew or scratch aggressively, and the lack of a padded floor, which may require an additional bed for comfort. Also, the size limits its use to smaller breeds, so larger dogs will need a bigger model. As a new product with no reviews yet, long-term durability is unproven, but the materials appear robust for normal travel and home use.
